At the center of this mandala is a nautilus shell. The logarithmic spirals fan outward from the tip of the shell, spiraling in ever-widening chambers and easily melding into surrounding fronds and spikes in a fern-like manner. The outermost circle completes the design with gentle rippling waves that suggest waves washing ashore on a beach, inviting tranquil application of watery palettes.
The interior spiral could be colored deep indigo, and brush fading for a pearlescent hue toward the outsides of the shell. Woodsy coral colors might be useful to offset the frond foliage. The recurrence of design motifs helps establish a sense of infinite movement; perfect for meditation in coloring and quiets the mind in the midst of our chaotic world.
You can accent the lines in each texture with stippling for depth effect or glaze on soft washes for glow; either way, the intended outcome is a piece that softly beckons to an underwater dance as it depicts natural geometry. Great to frame in a bathroom nook or for an eco-inspired gift. Let’s color!
